Interrupted city began as an itinerating seminar aimed to the study of new contact points across the divide of Nicosia, Cyprus. It was founded in 2017 by Alessandro Camiz (Ozyegin University), Tom Rankin (CalPoly) and Paolo Pineschi (University of Arkansas). It became then a wider interdisciplinary initiative speculating on the very notion of interruption in the urban realm. From the discontinuity between the modern and the ancient city, all the way to the evident homage to “Roma Interrotta” as established in 1978 by Piero Sartogo. Interrupted city aims to continue that interruption in the city, whatever you think that interruption might be.
